Today, I am going to gorge out on steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas with a spicy sangria while I watch the Lakers vs. Jazz game tonight.  Below is a recipe for one of my favorite spring time sangria’s.

SPICY SANGRIA

1 bottle of Merlot wine, 2 1/2 cups of pomegranate juice, 1/2 cup cognac, 1/4 cup Triple Sec, 1/2 cup simple syrup (recipe below), 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds, 1 large blood orange halved and thinly sliced, 1 granny smith apple halved and thinly sliced, 1 1/4 cup black seedless black grapes cut in half.  Pour into a large pitcher put in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours.  Serve over crushed ice.

Simple syrup recipe:  equal parts sugar and water, heat in microwave for approximately 30 seconds or until the sugar dissolves, stir together,  Remove from microwave allow to cool then add to sangria mixture.
