Who Has the Churn?

Who remembers this?

There is nothing better than homemade ice cream. My Daddy loved my ice cream.  It became a 4th of July tradition to make vanilla and black walnut ice cream.

Ingredients:  6 eggs, 2 cups sugar, 2 quarts whole milk, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 pint whipping cream,2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1 tablespoon flour, 2 1/2 cup sugar,  2 tablespoons vanilla, 1 teaspoon salt.

In a large heavy pot cream eggs and sugar.  Add the rest of the ingredients.  Beat until well blended.  Cook on low heat, constantly stirring until the mixture coats the spoon.

Allow to cool.  Pour into the ice cream freezer.  Insert dasher.  Fill the cooler with ice, top off with rock salt.  Time to start the churn.  It’s ice cream when the churn will not move which means the ice cream is frozen solid.
