This is my Aunt Marys’ recipe. Mary is my paternal great-aunt; she is my grandmothers’ sister. I’ve made a couple of changes and additions, but basically this is her recipe.
1 (16 oz.) package prepared shredded cold slaw with red, white cabbage and carrots, ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅛ teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds, 1/4 cup miracle whip, 2 tablespoons buttermilk, ½ cup walnuts, chopped, 1/4 cup crushed pineapples, drained, 1 medium red delicious apple, peeled and cut into bite size pieces, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons red onions, finely chopped. Combine salt, pepper, celery seeds, miracle whip, and buttermilk into a bowl and whisk until creamy. Add the remaining ingredients to another bowl. Toss dressing into the cabbage mixture. Refrigerate until the slaw is chilled, then serve.
