A turnip is a root vegetable that is high in nutrition and low  in calories.  The leafy green top of the turnip is edible, but that’s another post.

A cousin asked me for a quick and easy rutabaga recipe. I immediately Googled rutabagas, I was shocked to learn that turnips are rutabagas. I wiped the sweat from my head and wrote out this old southern recipe that has a Jacque Rose fufu twist.

2 pounds turnips, 1 tablespoons bacon fat, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon salt,  2 tablespoons raw honey, chopped flat-leaf parsley for garnish.

Peel turnips, thinly slice.  In a heavy skillet add the bacon fat and butter. Cook for 1 minute on each side until tender. Season with salt.  Drizzle with honey and garnish with parsley.
