CLASSIC MEATLOAF
Meatloaf is a traditional German dish. Meatloaf is classic comfort food. At my house meatloaf was an often served weekday dish and made into sandwiches the next day. Serve with baked potatoes, green beans and a simple green salad, and red kool-aid.
MEATLOAF
4 pieces of stale bread, ½ cup onions, finely chopped, ¼ cup bell pepper, finely chopped, 1 celery stalk, finely chopped, 2 pounds ground chuck or ground turkey, 2 eggs, beaten, 1 tablespoon flour, 1 (10 ¾ oz.) can cream of mushroom soup, 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning, 1 tablespoon beef bouillon, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 package dry onion soup mix, 1/4 teaspoon sugar, 12 pieces think bacon.
Pour a couple of teaspoons of milk in a bowl, add bread allow to soak then crumble the bread into the meat. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Mix well. Form meat mixture into a loaf shape in the baking dish. Place the bacon slices on top of the loaf, be sure to tuck the end pieces underneath the loaf. Pour half the sauce over the loaf and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour 30 minutes. Pour the remaining sauce over the meat the last 15 minutes.
Meatloaf Sauce: ½ cup catsup, ½ tablespoons mustard, 1 tablespoons dry spaghetti mix, ¼ cup brown sugar mix with a whisk, stir until there are no lumps.
