Cousin Phyllis Lopez has honored us by sharing her Baked Turkey recipe. November is just around the corner before you know it, it’s going to be Thanksgiving.
This recipe is for a twelve (12) pound turkey. Thaw and remove any packaging and the giblet from the turkey neck and cavity. Rinse turkey with cold water pat the bird dry with a paper towel. Fold the wings behind the turkey. This step ensures they don’t scorch or dry out. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Generously rub the turkey, inside and out, with Goya Sazonador, black pepper, and cajun seasoning salt. Dice 2 sticks of butter. Place one (1) stick under the skin on the breast, massage over the top to move the butter around. Rub the remaining stick of butter on the legs, thighs, and wings. Place turkey in a roasting pan. Bake uncovered. Baste the turkey every hour. Turkey is done when it is golden brown, and the internal temperature is 140 degrees.
