When you are self quarantined, what treat makes your mouth and tummy say, “I want that”? Well, the answer is Rice Krispies Treats. These treats have brought a many of yums to tummies young and old. Here’s a little culinary history; in 1939, a Michigan Campfire Girl leader and Mildred Day, a Kellogg employee, made the first batch of this treat as a fundraiser. They sold hundreds, I don’t know how much it cost to make those treats back then, today is cost a little less than two cents an ounce. I think they made a grip!
RICE KRISPY TREATS
3 tablespoons butter, salted, 4 cups miniature marshmallows, 6 cups Rice Krispies
Get out a heavy saucepan, add the butter. When the butter melts, reduce the heat to a simmer, add the marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows are melted. Remove from the heat; add the cereal and mix well until all the cereal is coated. Get out a 13 x 9 pan, spray the pan with cooking spray. Scoop the cereal mixture onto the pan. Place a sheet of waxed paper on top, with your hands gently press and distribute the cereal mixture evenly on the pan. Set aside and allow to cool; cut into 2-inch squares.
