MY SISTAH’S ( left to right me, Pat, LaLa standing behind us Tiny)
My paternal roots are from the savannahs and jungles of West Africa. We came to America on wooden ships and chains. To be sure, there was no Ellis Island welcoming committee; we were greeted by a slave auction. Hodges’s DNA in America can be traced back to a man named George Hodges, who was a Virginia farmer and slave owner. My great grandfather, Edward (nicknamed Ned), was sired by George. My great grandfather was born a twin. We’ve been told that George’s wife had a slave take my Grandpa and his brother and throw them in the hog pen. Grandpa Ned was rescued, his brother was eaten by the hogs.
