It’s the first day of school. School is being taught virtually. We are all self quarantined, what treat would make your mouth and tummy say, “I want that”? Well, the answer is Rice Krispies Treats. These treats have brought a many of yums to tummies young and old. Here’s a little culinary history; in 1939, a Michigan Campfire Girl leader and Mildred Day, a Kellogg employee, made the first batch of this treat as a fundraiser. They sold hundreds, I don’t know how much it cost to make those treats back then, today is cost a little less than two cents an ounce. I think they made a grip!
RICE KRISPY TREATS
3 tablespoons butter, salted, 4 cups miniature marshmallows, 6 cups Rice Krispies
Get out a heavy saucepan, add the butter. When the butter melts, reduce the heat to a simmer, add the marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows are melted. Remove from the heat; add the cereal and mix well until all the cereal is coated. Get out a 13 x 9 pan, spray the pan with cooking spray. Scoop the cereal mixture onto the pan. Place a sheet of waxed paper on top, with your hands gently press and distribute the cereal mixture evenly on the pan. Set aside and allow to cool; cut into 2-inch squares.
