Mamma’s Fried Apple Pies

These pies are made from dried apples, to be called Mamma’s Fried Apple Pies the trick is to have just the right amount of sugar and spices.

These pies do all the things cooking and sharing is supposed to do.  When I make these pies my head and heart are filled with memories of being a little girl watching my Mamma make them I remember biting into the pies right out of the skillet piping hot and burning my mouth and making them for the first time.  Make these pies and create your memories.

These are the ingredients you will need to make about 8 pies:  1 (5 ounce) package dried apples, 2 cups water, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 1/2 teaspoons butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 (15 ounce) refrigerated pie crust,   oil for frying.

In a dutch oven add the water, butter, apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, flour and sugar. Cook over a medium heat until the apples are soft and all the  water has been absorbed. Remove from the heat stir together and allow to cool.  Roll out the dough.  Cut into 8 equal parts.  Top each slice with a heaping spoon of the apple mixture, fold in half; press with fork tines to seal. Make sure you do not overfill the pie.  Heat oil to approximately 350 degrees.  Place 3 to 4 pies into the skillet and fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove from skillet place pies on a wire rack to drain.  Sprinkle sugar on top of  each pie immediately when you take them out the oil.  Serve hot.
